The Bonaventura Press specialises in books about the history of the Spanish island of Menorca. It was founded in 1995 by Janet Sloss to promote a greater awareness of the three British occupations of the island in the 18th century.
Based on research in the major libraries in London, Paris and Menorca,
they include a biography of the first British governor, Richard Kane,
“A Small Affair”, an account of the seven-year occupation
by France in the middle of the century and “Exit Britannia”,
a description of Britain’s third and final occupation between
1799 and 1802.
This last includes an account of Admiral Nelson’s visit to the
Port of Mahon.
